Crosshead driven feedwater / air- condensate pumps. Driving the pumps from the crosshead
is traditional and delivers feedwater / removes condensate proportional to the engine speed.

HP (in this context) means Horse Power.
(Of course you know that; just being thorough.) It's a unit of power equal to 550
foot-pounds per second
or 735.5 (or 746 -- believe it not, opinions vary)
watts, and is the usual
measure of the amount of work an engine can do.
